Your family as a silhouette on wood
Upload a photo of all of you together. We turn it into a chalk and charcoal silhouette: everyone hand in hand, walking side by side, the children on the outside. Printed on a panel of real wood.
We then draw the silhouette (about a minute), and you see the proof and the price.
We only use your photo for your design. It isn't public, isn't used to train AI and is deleted after 30 days.
From photo to silhouette
This is what happens to an ordinary photo. It doesn't matter whether you're sitting, standing or smiling at the camera: we line you up, seen from behind, as if you're walking away together.
Three ways to do it
In chalk
Like the panel at the top: loose strokes of chalk and charcoal, with grain, rough edges and a hint of ground under your feet. Between the strokes, a little of the wood may show through. This is what you get when you choose a photo above. On the design screen it's called "Chalk silhouette".
Clean silhouette
Everyone seen from behind, hand in hand in a row, parents in the middle and children on the outside. The eldest looks up, the youngest toddles along. Solid and crisp, as if cut from black paper. Like the chalk version, it works with almost any photo, even one where you're all sitting down. On the design screen, choose "Silhouette, walking together".
Just like the photo
We follow your photo exactly: same pose, same place, even from the front or the side. Lovely when the photo already captures a moment, like a kiss, a jump or your shadows on the beach. On the design screen, choose the style "Silhouette".
Which photo works
- Everyone is fully in the picture, head to toe or at least down to the knees.
- You're standing or sitting slightly apart, so each shape can be seen on its own.
- An ordinary phone photo is fine. The background doesn't matter; we leave it out.
- Want the dog or cat in it? Put them in the photo too.
- A close-up selfie: a silhouette needs the whole shape, not just faces.
- Someone who isn't in the photo: we can't make them up. Take a new photo with everyone in it.
- Big groups: up to six people it looks calm; any more and it gets crowded.
The panel
- Material
- A panel of real wood, 20 mm thick, with a light whitewashed finish. The silhouette is printed on it in deep charcoal.
- Shape
- Square from 30 x 30 to 80 x 80 cm, or portrait from 30 x 45 to 60 x 90 cm. A row of four or five people looks best on a square.
- Hanging
- With or without a hanging system on the back. Without one, it can also lean on a shelf or sideboard.
- Proof
- Before you pay, you see the proof: how the silhouette sits on the panel and what is trimmed off at the edge.
Which size
30 x 30 cm looks lovely on a shelf or windowsill. 40 x 40 or 50 x 50 cm suits the wall above a sideboard. Above the sofa or in a hallway: 60 x 90 cm portrait.
A gift for the whole family
A family silhouette makes a thoughtful gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day or a birthday, or for grandparents with the grandchildren on it. New baby in the family? Make a new one from a new photo. There are no faces on it, so it also works well in a hallway that everyone walks past.
Questions
Does the photo have to be taken from behind?
No. In chalk and as a clean silhouette, we draw you from behind, whatever your photo shows. You can be sitting down or looking straight at the camera. Only "Just like the photo" keeps the pose from your photo.
Can the dog be in it?
Yes, if the dog is in the photo. It walks along with you, on its lead if it has one. We never add an animal that isn't in the photo.
Will it really look like us?
A silhouette has no faces. You recognise yourselves by the shape: height, hair, posture, a ponytail, a cap, a pair of dungarees. Not quite right? Try again or stop: you only pay when you order.
Can I have it on canvas or as a poster?
Yes. Pick another product on the design screen, or start from the canvas or poster page. We can't send wood to every country (the United States, for example), but the silhouette works on canvas or as a poster too.
How long does it take?
Drawing the silhouette takes about a minute. To the UK and the Netherlands the panel usually arrives within 5 to 8 working days, to Germany within 6 to 10; at checkout you see the delivery time for your country.
